Księży Młyn (the Priest’s Mill) is an old part of
Łódź, located on the Jasień River. A mill owned
by a local parish-priest was located here from
the 15th century. In the early 19th century
a spinning mill powered by a water wheel was
built on the site of the mill. In 1872 the dilapidated
spinning mill along with the adjacent land was
bought by the most famous and the biggest Polish
manufacturer Karol Wilhelm Scheibler.
Scheibler was born on 1 October 1820 in
Monschau in Rhineland. After graduating from
school he learned about manufacturing in
the most important industrial centres of Europe
and from 1843 worked as a representative of
British companies on the Continent. In 1848 he
