At the top of the coin, in the middle, an image of the Eagle established as the State Emblem of the Republic of Poland. Underneath the Eagle, on the righthand side, an inscription, 20 ZŁ, on the left-hand side, a stylised image of a wall coping fragment of the Celej family tenement in Kazimierz Dolny. At the top and on the right-hand side, a semicircular inscription, RZECZPOSPOL ITA POL SKA and the notation of the year of issue, 2008. The Mint's mark under the Eagle's left leg, M/W.

Kazimierz Dolny

The small town, referred to as the gem of the Polish Renaissance, delights its guests with the beauty of the landscape and the splendour of the architecture. Its panorama is dominated by monuments situated on the hills: the ruins of a tower erected in the 14th century by Władyslaw Łokietek (Wladyslaw the Short), the ruins of a stone castle from the times of Kazimierz Wielki (Casimir the Great), the parish church, and a monastery.

As early as in the 11th century, the site where the monastery now stands was occupied by a settlement called Wietrzna Góra (Windy Mountain), located near the Vistula crossing. Towards the end of the 12th century Kazimierz Sprawiedliwy (Casimir the Just) handed it to the Norbertine nuns, who named it after their benefactor. ...
